Bella’s Saratoga Summer
As the story begins, Bella the elephant is hot and bored when a letter arrives from her friend Lily Duck in Saratoga Springs. “Dearest Bella,” it says, “Everything is nice and green here, but I’m blue without you! Why don’t you come for a visit?”
From Congress Park to SPAC and from Saratoga Lake to Broadway, Bella the Elephant and Lily Duck enjoy their best summer ever—capped off with Bella’s wild ride on Mayzie the Thoroughbred at the Saratoga Race Course. This playful picture book captures Saratoga’s spirit and the pleasure in sharing that spirit with friends.
The author illustrates the book with 17 gorgeous, full color paintings. Kids will love this beautifully written and illustrated Saratoga adventure. Sattler is also the author of the popular Adirondack picture book, All Aboard Owney! The Adirondack Mail Dog.
Jennifer Sattler on Saratoga Springs: “My husband and I moved to Saratoga only four years ago and, of course, I noticed right away how beautiful it was. Then, after my first child, Mayzie, was born, I discovered how special Saratoga is for kids, how much there is for them to do here. Watching Mayzie and her friends run with the ducks in Congress Park, slurp ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, and experience the thoroughbreds up close at the track inspired me to capture it all in a book especially for children.”
“…Bella’s Saratoga Summer should be great fun for kids and grownups alike; especially for those who love Saratoga Springs….Charming, fun, whimsical.”
“Children will delight in the brightly colored illustrations and easily recognize Saratoga Race Course, Congress Park, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and Broadway. This entertaining picture book is a wonderful first effort by Sattler….”
“This playful romp through a watercolor world hit the shelves just a few weeks ago, but it’s already causing a stir. Bella’s Saratoga Summer is the perfect gift for any child who lives in, visits, or might visit Saratoga Springs. Even the youngest child will recognize the settings in Sattler’s lively and colorful depictions of Saratoga’s hot spots, and background characters draw just as much attention as Bella and Lily.”
“Your book is wonderful. I can’t believe this is your 1st book. It truly is joyful for all ages.”
“Over the summer my daughter and I picked up ‘Bella’s Saratoga Summer’ at the race track. I want to thank you for writing such a wonderful story for kids and parents alike.”
“I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your book. The illustrations are rich and whimsical; the story is charming; and the setting is so apropos.”
