About

Dear Readers,

I started publishing New York State history, nature, and children’s books when I acquired North Country Books of Utica, NY in 1998. Three years later, I left North Country Books and started a new regional publishing company, Nicholas K. Burns Publishing.

I published 14 titles with five still in print, all available on this website. And over the years I’ve sold over 40,400 copies. My marketplace wasn’t just bookstores, but also gift shops, craft and specialty stores, and other retailers who knew their customers would enjoy not only a good read, but also one of local interest.

I stopped taking on new titles in 2009 and started NKB Marketing, an online copywriting service.

In 2023 I discovered author John L. Swann and his first book in our Charlie Chan Returns series, Death, I Said, and got back into book publishing!

So for readers of well written, fascinating New York State and Adirondack books, I know you will enjoy my regional titles.

And now that Charlie Chan has opened up a new world to Nicholas K. Burns Publishing, you can read some entertaining crime fiction, including my just published fourth installment, Wheels Within Wheels: A Charlie Chan Mystery.

Best Regards,
Nick Burns, Publisher
