John L. Swann is an experienced media personality and a great interview. Before writing full time, his communications career in the Midwest and Upstate New York included stints as a radio reporter and talk-show host, and a television news anchor. He also served as chief of staff to the president of the State University of New York Institute of Technology.
Swann launched the series in 2023 with “Death, I Said: A Charlie Chan Mystery” in honor of the character’s 100th anniversary. Novelist Earl Derr Biggers created the legendary detective in six Charlie Chan novels that spawned a universe of film, radio, and television long after the book series ended with the writer’s untimely death in 1933.
The new Chan series picks up where the original left off. Mystery readers and Chan fans have reacted enthusiastically, with reviewers on Goodreads and elsewhere offering praise for Swann’s writing and treatment of an iconic fictional character:
